Mobile Device Forensics

Mobile device forensics is a branch of digital forensics relating to recovery of digital evidence or data from a mobile device under forensically sound conditions. This course focuses on the forensic study of mobile devices due to the rapid proliferation of smartphones and applications such as contacts, photos, calendars and notes, SMS and MMS messages, video, email, web browsing information, location information, and social networking. Students will learn how to perform the forensic examination of mobile devices using both commercial and open source tools. Students will describe and analyze effects of mobile device malware on forensic examinations Students in this course will learn how to properly identify, preserve, analyze, examine data and report on mobile device data. Prerequisite: IAE-685 (3) NOTE: Students enrolled in this course incur an additional lab fee of $100.
