Capitol Technology University is happy to serve our veterans and dependents of veterans. General Military and Veterans information can be found here: https://www.captechu.edu/admissions-and-financial-aid/military-and-veterans

Eligibility

Eligible applicants and their dependents may qualify for veterans' educational benefits that are available through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. If you think you may be entitled to these benefits, contact the VA' s education information hotline at 888-442-4551 to determine your eligibility.

To use your benefits you must be admitted to the university in a program approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs and submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility from the VA.

Students receiving benefits under Chapter 31 Veteran Readiness & Employment (formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation) will have their authorizations to receive Chapter 31 benefits submitted electronically via the VA's Tungsten Network partner by their VR&E counselor.

Veterans are certified on a per semester basis. Certifications do not automatically roll over from one semester to another. All continuing students must complete the VA Certification Request Form each semester or term that they wish to utilize their VA education benefits. In addition, any changes to a student’s schedule or status (including dropped, added or audited courses, changes in major or withdrawals) must be reported to a certifying official immediately as the university is required to notify the Department of Veterans Affairs within 30 days of any change in student status.

Veterans can find helpful information on the use of their VA education benefits at the GI Bill® Website or the VA's eBenefits portal including how to apply for VA Benefits and contact information for benefits counselors.

Adds, Drops and Withdrawals

Before making changes to your schedule please consult our VA School Certifying Official (VABenefits{at}CapTechU.edu) to make sure that these changes do not negatively impact your VA funding.  Students planning to withdraw from a course or semester are strongly encouraged to consult the SCO before completing any withdrawal forms.  The military.com website contains an excellent outline on the potential problems of withdrawing from courses mid-semester.

Questions on tuition discounts for active duty or retired servicemembers should be directed to BusinessOffice@CapTechU.edu

Using Your Veterans Benefits

First-Time VA Benefits Users

If you are planning to use Veteran Education Benefits for the first time at Capitol Technology University, you must submit the VA Certification Request Form for New and Readmitted Students AFTER you have registered for your first semester. This form includes a field in which you will upload the latest copy of your Certificate of Eligibility or Statement of Benefits as a PDF.

Continuing VA Benefits Users

All continuing students (those who have been enrolled in the past three semesters) must complete the VA Enrollment Certification Request Form for Continuing Students AFTER you have registered for the semester for which you are using benefits.

When Will I Be Certified?

As long as you have submitted your latest Certificate of Eligibility and the appropriate Certification Request form, you will be certified after the add period has closed for the semester/term you requested to be certified for. The last day to add a course date can be found in the Calendars section of the University Catalog. You will receive an invoice regardless of VA status as they are generated for all enrolled students, however, the payment disbursed by the VA will be applied to your account after you are certified.

Am I Eligible for Any Discounts?

To inquire about your eligibility for Active Duty or Retired Servicemember discounts please contact your Admissions counselor if you are a new or returning student. If you are a continuing student please contact the Business Office at businessoffice@captechu.edu or 301-369-2319.

Schedule Adjustments

If any change is made to your class schedule after submitting your initial VA Enrollment Certification Request Form you must report the change(s) to the Office of Registration and Records by completing and submitting the VA Schedule Adjustment Form. Completing this form will allow our office to report your enrollment changes to the Department of Veterans Affairs in a timely manner.  Timely reporting will avoid overpayments of your educational benefits which will need to be refunded.  We do not report added courses until we receive this form.

Who Do I Contact if I Still Have Questions?

Students wishing to use their VA education benefits while attending Capitol Technology University can receive assistance with questions by contacting the School Certifying Official (SCO) in the Office of Registration and Records at  VABenefits@CapTechU.edu

NEW! Enrollment Verification for Post 9/11 GI BILL Students

Starting in the Spring 2022 semester, VA students are required to verify their enrollment to continue receiving their payments.

Enrollment verification is a new requirement for Post-9/11 GI Bill® students to verify that they have remained enrolled in the same courses or training every month. Students who receive MHA/kicker payments will have their payments withheld if they fail to verify or report that they are no longer enrolled in their courses or training. To streamline the process, VA is providing the option to verify enrollment easily and securely via text message.

This requirement is only for Post-9/11 GI Bill® and does not impact other benefit programs, such as the Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB), Survivors and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) or the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship.  If you are an MGIB student, this new requirement does not represent a change for you, as MGIB students are already required to verify enrollment.

Post 9/11 GI Bill® students are strongly encouraged to reach out to the Education Call Center (ECC) at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) to update their information. This will ensure that they receive the latest email updates on monthly enrollment verification and are able to opt-in to enrollment verification by text message.

For more information on enrollment verification, including an infographic with step-by-step instructions and FAQs, explore the Enrollment Verification website. The VA will also be share this information with affected students directly.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill
